Training tomorrow’s Supply Chain Leaders at Avio Aero

December 10, 2025

For a recent mechanical engineering graduate like Mario Sebastiano, working at Avio Aero’s Brindisi plant – surrounded by aircraft engines – was a dream come true and the beginning of an intense two-year journey through GE Aerospace’s Avio Aero Operations Management Leadership Program (OMLP).

“If you love aviation, continuous learning in techniques and manufacturing, and you value flexibility, Avio Aero has what it takes to offer you a unique experience through the OMLP,” said Mario.

Designed to accelerate the development of global supply chain management expertise, the OMLP helps early-career professionals jump-start a successful career in the Supply Chain. Avio Aero, a GE Aerospace company, regularly offers the OMLP across its sites in Italy. While interning at Avio Aero, Mario was encouraged to apply by colleagues who had participated in previous editions and described it as a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity.

“The OMLP pushes you out of your comfort zone, encouraging you to be dynamic and flexible while providing a deep understanding of what the company does,” said Mario. “With every job rotation, the knowledge you acquire across roles is like adding a new piece to the puzzle.”

To grow talent, rotating through a variety of positions is a core feature of the OMLP. Participants gain tools, competencies, and mentorship through hands-on immersion, while they are expected to advance business results and develop as leaders. Common rotations include Operations Supervisor, Lean Specialist, Materials Planner, and Manufacturing/Process Engineer.

After his first eight-month rotation as a Component Repair Overhaul (CRO) Manufacturing Engineer in Brindisi, Mario spent his second rotation managing supply orders as an NPI Manager for the Strategic Sourcing team in Rivalta di Torino. Now in his third and final rotation, he is about to wrap up his OMLP experience as a supervisor for the Power Gear cell—a dynamic, shift-based production role that has given him the chance to develop leadership and people-management skills.

“OMLP offers a dynamic and challenging experience, working on meaningful projects in key roles across diverse environments,” said Roberto Arcaro, Leadership Program and Lean Knowledge Manager. “Participants’ efforts and enthusiasm will make a real impact and shape their journey, opening doors to exciting career growth and leadership opportunities.”

At the end of the program, OMLP graduates are expected to have mastered project management and supply chain operations skills using FLIGHT DECK, GE Aerospace’s proprietary lean operating model that helps run the business through the lenses of safety and quality to deliver exceptional value to customers.

“OMLP gives you the chance to learn which roles you’re most suited for and what opportunities are available on- and off-program,” Mario added.

In addition to specialized training, the OMLP brings people together and helps participants feel part of Avio Aero and the broader GE Aerospace community—from ongoing mentorship to international learning opportunities. During the program, participants often visit GE Aerospace plants in the United States and meet other participants overseas to attend courses and complete challenging team-building simulations together.

The call for applications for the 2026 Operations Management Leadership Program at Avio Aero is now open on the GE Aerospace Careers website. The deadline to apply is December 17, 2025.
